Each worksheet starts with two easy questions and finishes with two hard ones, so most Year 3 children can begin on their own and will have to think by the end. The answers print on a separate page, with a worked solution for every question, so you can mark it together.
A good habit: ask your child to explain how they got two or three of the answers. If the explanation is shaky, the worked solution shows one clear way to think it through.

- 10
Which sum is even?
- A13 + 24
- B35 + 46
- C17 + 39
- D22 + 51
Answers: Odd and even numbers: worksheet 1
- A: even 6 counters make 3 pairs with none left over. So 6 is even.
- A: odd 11 counters make 5 pairs and 1 is left over. So 11 is odd.
- D: 1006 1006 ends in 6, which is even. 109, 333 and 75 end in 9, 3 and 5, which are odd.
- 41 After 39 comes 40, which is even, then 41, which is odd.
- B: even Pairs plus pairs are still all pairs. So even + even is always even, like 4 + 6 = 10.
- B: odd The odd number has 1 left over, and the even number has none. So there is still 1 left over: odd. Like 3 + 4 = 7.
- 1 27 is odd. 26 children make 13 pairs and 1 child is left over.
- 14 27 + 1 = 28 people. 28 is even, and 28 makes 14 pairs.
- B: odd Two odds make an even. Then even + odd is odd. For example 1 + 3 + 5 = 9.
- C: 17 + 39 17 and 39 are both odd, and odd + odd is even. (17 + 39 = 56.) The others are odd + even, which are odd.

How many 100 g blocks of chocolate have a total mass of 1 kg?
blocks
Answers: Choosing metric units: worksheet 1
- B: grams An apple is light, so we use grams. It is about 150 g.
- C: millilitres A glass holds a small amount, about 250 mL. So we use millilitres.
- C: kilograms A dog is heavy, so we use kilograms. A small dog might be about 8 kg.
- B: kilometres A car can go a long way in an hour. We use kilometres.
- D: 50 g, 500 g, 1 kg 1 kg is 1000 g. So the order is 50 g, 500 g, then 1000 g.
- A: 1 kg 1 kg is 1000 g, which is more than 900 g.
- 450 g 150 + 200 = 350. 350 + 100 = 450. So the total is 450 g.
- 2000 mL 1 L = 1000 mL. 2 L = 1000 + 1000 = 2000 mL.
- B: 99 cm, 2 m, 150 m, 1 km 99 cm is less than 1 m. Then 2 m, then 150 m. 1 km is 1000 m, the longest.
- 10 1 kg = 1000 g. Count in hundreds to 1000: that is 10 blocks.
